Job Title: The Wilderness Society Intern
Location: Chicago, IL (and surrounding suburbs)
Term: January- April, 8-10 hours a week
Background and Campaign Description:
The Wilderness Society (TWS) was formed in 1935 to defend the nation’s wild public lands against rapid development, urbanization and natural resource exploitation. Our mission is to protect wilderness and inspire Americans to care for wild places. Over the years, we have helped grow the national wilderness preservation system to over 110 million acres across the country. This Spring, we will be working in Chicago, IL to further protect our parks and natural spaces.
Across the country, the Antiquities Act and the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) have been used for decades to declare national monuments and fund the maintenance of local, state and national parks. These government programs have played a critical role in protecting some of our most beloved spaces like the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park and Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Unfortunately, these tools for protecting our parks are under attack in Congress. We will be working in Chicago this Spring to show Senator Mark Kirk that his constituents care about protecting and preserving our outdoor spaces for generations to come.
