Earth Week at Oakton Community College! 4/18-4/23

Every year, Oakton Community College prepares a week of hands-on programming to educate and engage our communities on issues related to the environment during the week of Earth Day. This year, we are happy to offer another mix of workshops, lectures, hands-on exploration, and restoration events and we welcome you to join us. All events are free and open to the public. No registration is required. Please share with your friends and families!

Internship title: Sustainability Communications and Outreach

Name and title of supervisor: Kumar Jensen, Acting Sustainability Manager

Projects/activities to be assigned to intern:
• Develop weekly content for sustainability messaging on the City’s web and social media outlets, working in conjunction with the Community Engagement Division, and other intern teams to promote real-time information to the community. Includes writing articles for City’s weekly newsletter (30,000 distribution).
• Focus specifically on growing our Twitter presence through targeted campaigns and developing Twitter specific content for the Office of Sustainability.
• Develop bi-weekly content for Sustainability newsletters to promote and communicate the city’s sustainability news to be distributed to over 2,500 e-mail accounts in the City’s Sustainability Newsletter Group.
• Manage updates to the City’s Sustainability Webpages including Sustainability page on City’s website ( and separate sustainability Blog Green Buzz (
• Develop contact lists for the Office of Sustainability to aid in distributing content to specific groups and organizations within the Evanston community.
• Provide content creation and evaluation support as the City evaluates and rebuilds its website.
• Attend community events as a representative of the Office of Sustainability and promote City programs and initiatives.
• Respond to calls, emails and requests from community members related to City sustainability programming.
• Support the Sustainability Manager by preparing presentations, conducting project research and taking notes during meetings.
• Other duties and projects as assigned by the Sustainability Manager.

Citizens Utility Board–Utility Bill Clinic at Skokie Campus 3/15/16

Oakton Community College’s Green Committee will be hosting a utility bill clinic in coordination with Citizens Utility Board and the Village of Skokie at our Ray Hartstein Campus on Tuesday, March 15 from 6pm to 8pm.

Join representatives from the Citizens Utility Board (CUB; for a free utility bill clinic to learn ways to save money on your gas, electric, and telephone bills. Get tips on how to avoid common pitfalls and scams, and sign up for efficiency programs designed to save you money! Please bring current copies of your gas, electric and telephone bills for CUB to review. CUB is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to fighting for the rights of utility customers across Illinois.

The event will be held at our Skokie Campus, 7701 North Lincoln Avenue, Skokie IL 60077 in Room A145 March 15.
