Internship title: Sustainability Communications and Outreach

Name and title of supervisor: Kumar Jensen, Acting Sustainability Manager

Projects/activities to be assigned to intern:
• Develop weekly content for sustainability messaging on the City’s web and social media outlets, working in conjunction with the Community Engagement Division, and other intern teams to promote real-time information to the community. Includes writing articles for City’s weekly newsletter (30,000 distribution).
• Focus specifically on growing our Twitter presence through targeted campaigns and developing Twitter specific content for the Office of Sustainability.
• Develop bi-weekly content for Sustainability newsletters to promote and communicate the city’s sustainability news to be distributed to over 2,500 e-mail accounts in the City’s Sustainability Newsletter Group.
• Manage updates to the City’s Sustainability Webpages including Sustainability page on City’s website (www.cityofevanston.org/sustainability) and separate sustainability Blog Green Buzz (www.evanstongreenbuzz.org).
• Develop contact lists for the Office of Sustainability to aid in distributing content to specific groups and organizations within the Evanston community.
• Provide content creation and evaluation support as the City evaluates and rebuilds its website.
• Attend community events as a representative of the Office of Sustainability and promote City programs and initiatives.
• Respond to calls, emails and requests from community members related to City sustainability programming.
• Support the Sustainability Manager by preparing presentations, conducting project research and taking notes during meetings.
• Other duties and projects as assigned by the Sustainability Manager.

The City of Evanston Office of Sustainability works to support the City’s goal of being the “Most Livable City.” The Office works on sustainability issues relating to transportation, renewable energy, waste reduction, energy efficiency, food systems, water conservation and much more. The Office is looking for a full-time Communications and Outreach intern for the summer of 2016.

There will be training opportunities for interns to learn how to use the various software communications tools the City utilizing in disseminating information.

Software/equipment expected to use. Is training provided:
Experience and comfort using Microsoft Office suite is a requirement. Familiarity with Twitter and WordPress is a strong plus.

Duration of internship: 8-12 weeks
