Is NOW the Time for You to Consider a Green School?
College and University programs centered around sustainability and related topics are continually appearing and evolving, especially as the market for Green Jobs grows. At Oakton, our Green Committee and Sustainability staff are making an effort to connect with Faculty across disciplines to incorporate green themes and engage students in sustainability on campus. In 2016, we will launch our Environmental Studies Concentration, a new opportunity for students to bolster their Associate’s degrees with multi-disciplinary courses that highlight environmental and social issues on local and global scales.
Locally, the Illinois Green Economy Network unites community colleges in our state to think about, plan for, and support green curricula and careers and encourage sustainable practices on our campuses. They recently published a thorough and interactive guide to Certificates and Degrees offered throughout the state.
Nationally, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education provides a number of resources about such programs, including their resource guide to Green Certificates and Degrees.
