The Chicago Academy of Sciences / Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum is hiring part-time Public Engagement Facilitators to join our Public Engagement team.

The Chicago Academy of Sciences / Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum is Chicago’s oldest museum in the newest building. Our mission is to create a positive relationship between people and nature through collaborations, education, research and collections, exhibitions and public forums to grow our region’s urban connection to the world of nature and science. The public engagement facilitator will advance this mission by facilitating interpretive programs for museum guests of all ages and backgrounds.

Great opportunity for someone who is looking for part-time experience in research:

This is a responsible non-manager level position. The Audience Research and Evaluation department conducts social science research, and evaluation, in an effort to provide valuable audience insights to institutional planning. The department is responsible for leading the development, implementation, reporting and management of institutional research and evaluation strategies and tools with Shedd’s nearly 2 million guests. The field researcher’s primary role is to conduct data collection, data entry, and provides administrative support for the day-to-day operations and special projects associated with the Audience Research and Evaluation department.  Occasionally, the field researcher will assist with data analysis, reporting, and evaluation planning.

Creating Monarch Habitat at Oakton and in the Community

3000 miles. That’s quite a commute. Even more impressive then is the fact that this distance is traveled by millions of monarch butterflies, tiny creatures with ~4 inch wingspan. This great migration has been a beautiful phenomenon for generations…but numbers are declining. Monarch populations are threatened by habitat loss and pesticide use, among other reasons. One of the biggest issues for monarchs is their specialized diet during the larval stage. Monarch caterpillars rely solely on milkweed plants where female butterflies lay their eggs. Without them, their life cycle cannot be completed. Oakton Community College is helping to protect Monarch butterflies by creating usable habitat on campus and in the community.

Job Summary

This position will support the operations of the Department of Conservation and Experiential Programming (CEP). Interns will assist all CEP staff and could work in all/any CEP locations including, but not limited to, General Office, Nature Centers, Campgrounds and Aquatic Centers. Interns will provide support in a variety of administrative tasks, assignments, programs and operational functions, and will performs other duties as required or assigned.  This is a seasonal position and the duration of this position is flexible.
