Job Summary

Under designated supervision by Conservation & Experiential Programming Recreation Staff, provides hands-on outdoor recreation activities to District patrons at a variety of special events, activities, sites and programs at numerous locations around Cook County. May be assigned to oversee a specific aspect of outdoor recreation and/or camping programming; and will assist in overseeing seasonal support staff for those projects. Develops programmatic ideas, concepts and, in some cases, curriculum that will be delivered as a mobile team around the District.  Assists with programmatic and customer service interaction at events including, but not limited to, campgrounds, camping trainings, climbing wall, outdoor recreation activities, special events and programs.

Assistant Director, Sustainability (Pomona College)

Pomona College is seeking a talented, energetic, dedicated, and well-organized professional to serve as the Assistant Director, Sustainability. The candidate must be detailed-oriented and comfortable working in a relaxed but busy environment.

The successful candidate will provide leadership to the College’s sustainability programs and will develop, implement, and assess efforts for the integration of sustainability throughout campus operations and programs. This position will develop, enhance, and maintain environmental stewardship within the campus community and among its constituencies as well as develop strategies for: energy and resource conservation and efficiency, building performance and retro-commissioning, cost forecasting, community engagement and outreach, and strategic planning for sustainability. This position oversees the various programs of the Sustainability Integration Office. This position is an ex-officio member of the President’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability.

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies or other related field of study required; Master’s Degree preferred; Five years of hands-on experience implementing environmental or sustainability programs is required.  LEED level accreditation preferred or the ability to obtain within 18 months.

Program & Event Facilitator (Burnham Wildlife Corridor Community Liaison) JobID: 2211
Title:  Program and Event Facilitator  – Burnham Wildlife Corridor Community Liaison  (part time / temporary)

Program Description: The Chicago Park District envisions parks as vital natural resources that provide Chicagoans the opportunity to explore green space and encounter wildlife in an urban environment. Public parks also  enhance individual quality of life, support positive neighborhood development, and encourage community dialogue. The Chicago Park District works with many partners to create  spaces that provide these benefits for the local community.

The Program & Event Coordinator will serve as a community connector and liaison for the Burnham Wildlife Corridor and other parks in the Bronzeville and Pilsen neighborhoods. He/she will be responsible for identifying and collaborating with community-based organizations of all sizes to shape and enhance park spaces, programming, stewardship activities and events. This work involves assessing the needs of local residents and individual parks and communities in order to create mutually beneficial relationships and programming.

 


CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:

Under supervision, coordinates special programs and events to bring programming resources to parks that would otherwise be unavailable. Performs related duties as required.
 


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Plans and oversees special citywide programs in order to bring programming resources to the parks. Meets with individuals from partner organizations and determines tasks and then ensures their completion. Works with key individuals to define tasks and timeliness, gather and disseminate information and execute projects, programs and events. Plans and executes after-school programming, summer field trips and festivals. Coordinates staffing assignments and the delivery of supplies. Prepares reports and promotional materials on special programs.


DESIRABLE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Education or Outreach, or a related field, supplemented by three (3) years of experience in event planning, community engagement, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. Training in informal science education practices or demonstrated experience in informal science education settings preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of education and curriculum design principles. Knowledge of local ecosystems. Ability to understand and implement elements of community based programming. Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Organization and planning skills. Driver’s license preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish preferred.

Expected Schedule: approximately 20 hours per week

Expected Salary Offer: $17.55 per hour
