Audubon Habitat Restoration Paid Internships–Apply Now!

For over a decade, Audubon Great Lakes has trained young adults for careers in conservation through our Audubon Wings Internship program. Annually, Audubon hires, trains, and supervises Restoration Interns, who work on lands managed by the Forest Preserves of Cook County and Chicago Park District, respectively.

The Audubon Habitat Restoration Internship is a 16-20 week program focusing on ecological restoration and land stewardship. Interns are seasonal, full-time (40 hour/week) employees and provided competitive hourly salary. Interns work outside in various extreme weather conditions and must be able to commit to a flexible schedule throughout the program, as weather determines the workday. Previous experience in habitat restoration is not required, but interns are expected to complete necessary trainings and certifications in order to complete assigned projects in the field. During the program, interns will carry-out work orders to remove invasive vegetation, collect and distribute native seeds, plant native plugs, and participate in prescribed burns.

    Mt. Prospect Park District was incorporated in June 1955 and is located approximately 35 miles northwest of Chicago. Encompassing more than 454 acres, the Park District provides recreation programs, facilities and services to portions of Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights, Des Plaines and Elk Grove Village with a total population of 215,000. Mt. Prospect Park District offers its residents a total of 32 parks and recreational facilities including, a 3-1/2 star golf course, neighborhood playgrounds, pools, fitness centers, ball diamonds, biking and walking paths. We are searching for part-time, Nature Instructor. The Nature Instructor is responsible for creating and presenting educational and outdoor skill programs for children including, but not limited to insects, food chains, animals, birds, ecology, and nature. Must be at least 21 years old.The pay range for this position is $8.25-$11.00 per hour.

Student Conservation Association openings for all female crew in Chicago!!

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is
America’s #1 conservation service organization.
We’re seeking female crew member applicants to
conserve natural areas in the Chicago Park District!

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work alongside a crew of 10 young-adult women, ages
18-25, to complete various conservation projects within
Chicago Park District natural areas. Activities include using
hand and power tools to complete projects such as:
trail/park maintenance; habitat restoration; invasive species
removal; herbicide application; and leading stewardship
days. Crew member’s work will focus on projects at the
following sites: Hegewisch Marsh, Indian Ridge Marsh,
Big Marsh, Sherman Park, Washington Park, McKinley
Park, Ping Tom Park, and the Burnham Wildlife Corridor.
The crew will also participate in environmental education
workshops, certificate trainings and outdoor recreation.

Alliance for the Great Lakes Outreach Affiliate — Chicago, temporary part-time position

Summary

Outreach Affiliate will support the work of the Alliance’s education and volunteer efforts, including the Adopt-a-Beach™ Program, on-the-ground volunteer opportunities, and other local projects in and around Chicago. The Outreach Affiliate will work closely with the Volunteer Manager and Education Manager on communications, event planning, research, data management and evaluation of our programs.

This is a part-time, temporary, paid position for March – September 2019.  Applicants for this position must have college experience. Progressive work experience may be considered in lieu of college experience. This position is based in Chicago, IL.  Applicants must be comfortable with navigating travel in the Chicagoland area.

Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Support the Alliance’s volunteer programs by conducting outreach to new and returning volunteers and mailing Adopt-a-Beach™ supplies;
  • Provide logistical support to the Adopt-a-Beach™ program by organizing and accurately imputing data from Adopt-a-Beach™, advocacy and special events;
  • Attend local Adopt-a-Beach™ events;
  • Attend community tabling/speaking events to recruit potential volunteers and expand the Alliance’s presence in the community;
  • Coordinate in-person and online trainings for volunteers;
  • Coordinate with beach/land managers to ensure proper permits for Adopt-a-Beach™ events;
  • Conduct online research to support Alliance volunteering programming, with a focus on volunteer management technology and community engagement in communities not currently engaged by the Alliance; and
  • Help with administrative/office tasks as needed.

REPORTING SUPERVISOR: Friendship Park Conservatory Department Manager

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is a part-time position, which allows a creative thinker to design and implement programming for children of all ages. Hours vary according to classes and registrations. Self-starting individual with nature background will be responsible for designing and implementing fun and educational park district programs for children. Summer day camps are a vital part of this position.

DUTIES: Create and present educational and outdoor skill programs for children including, but not limited to insects, food chains, animals, birds, ecology, and nature. Lead nature-themed lessons, art, activities while working outdoors. Create and lead programs for scout troops to earn badges. Keep detailed records for classes and other events. Keep all program manuals updated. Work directly with the students by leading and/ or supervising them in planned activities. Attend all required staff meetings, trainings, and workshops. Maintain a clean and organized work environment. Perform the job in compliance with District policies, procedures, and work rules. All other duties as assigned by the Conservatory Department Manager, Director of Recreation and/or the Executive Director. However, in an emergency, perform all other duties as required.
